King and queen checkmate
White to move and win.
The first checkmate every player should know: use the queen to shrink the enemy king's box, then bring your own king to finish.
The idea
- Move the queen a knight's move from the enemy king to shrink its box without checking.
- Stop when the king is on the edge with two free squares: a queen too close gives stalemate.
- Walk your own king up, then give mate on the edge.
