Queen against rook
White to move and win.
A famous test of technique: even grandmasters have failed to win it in fifty moves. Separate the king and the rook, then fork them.
The idea
- Push the king to the edge with your king and queen together.
- Look for checks that win the rook when it strays from its king.
- When it is your move and you have no check, hand the move over with a queen move.
